Letter, 1836 Feb. 23, Riceburg, Ga., to Mr. L. Whitaker, Camden, S.C.

Letter written en route to St. Mary's, Ga.; reporting having traveled twenty miles and plans to travel six miles farther before stopping; commenting on the leadership of Col. [Pierce Mason] Butler, "very rigid but quite the gent[lema]n," and requesting that Whitaker attend to Kennedy's "planting interest" including mention of his overseer, "direct McDonald to do just as for yourself." Includes post script, "Say to anyone who enquires that all are well, men and horses." Back page of letter is damaged, first name of recipient, "Mr. [?] L. Whitaker," is missing from the address.
